The terroir

The topography of the Collines Rhodaniennes is highly varied:
the Rhône’s flat alluvial plains, with little relief, lie alongside steep slopes and small plateaux.

The vineyard, often fragmented, spreads across the landscape, sometimes on narrow strips or steep, rugged hillsides.

Granitic soils dominate the area, along with stony deposits on the slopes and stony clay‑limestone soils in the valley.

Type of wines

Single‑variety plantings are a hallmark of this vineyard.

Red wines

Produced primarily from Syrah, Gamay and Merlot, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes red wines are characterised by:

  • density and depth,
  • mineral notes and expressive red fruit,
  • silky tannins and a balance of freshness and fullness.

Made from Roussanne, Marsanne and primarily Viognier, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes whites are delicate, floral and elegant, with aromas of white and yellow fleshed fruit.

Viognier, the signature grape of the designation, is perfectly at home here and shows its true character.

Fresh, fruit-driven wines showing fine balance, made for convivial, relaxed moments.

Wine quality

The proximity of major neighbouring appellations, and the mix of AOC and IGP vineyards, have created a strong qualitative drive.

The northern part of the Collines Rhodaniennes benefits from a balanced climate where warm days and cool nights promote slow, even ripening and intense aromatics.

The wide variation between daytime and night-time temperatures lends the white wines, in particular, exceptional finesse and aromatic purity.

In the Collines Rhodaniennes, winegrowers are both custodians of tradition and drivers of innovation.
